05/01/2017 Boro Projects Update
Route 147/225 Sidewalk Project--In a joint effort project between Halifax Borough, Halifax Township, and PENNDOT, via the TAPS program, new curbing and sidewalk will be installed from Rise Street in Halifax Borough south along the west side of Fourth Street/Peters Mountain Road to the area near Hoffman Road. This safety enhancement is designed to address the numerous residents and/or students that walk along the highway to get to school, jobs, and retail stores. The project will provide storm water drainage damage correction (from erosion) along it's length as well as enhance property owner's road frontage along the route, increasing property value. Project underway and on schedule.
5th Street---Halifax Borough will again submitted for CDBG grant funding from DCED this year to completely reconstruct 5th Street over it's 2 block length between Strawberry and Division Streets.
Strawberry Street---Borough officials are acquiring cost estimates to repair sections of this street between Second Street and Fourth Street.
Rail Road Crossings---last year a small project was completed to improve the RR crossing at Market Street. Borough officials are looking into the possibility of doing the same repairs to the Armstrong Street crossing.
Flood Plain Insurance rate change possible for those residents in the flood plain in Halifax Borough--Halifax Borough officials are working with county, state, and federal officials to secure a re-rating of the flood plain areas within Halifax Borough in an effort to reduce insurance costs to our residents living in the flood plain.
